Trinity Blood
Trinity Blood is classic Gonzo: fun and stylish, but lacking substance. That's a shame, too, because the show had real promise at the start.
Trinity Blood feels like a blend of Trigun and what I've seen of Hellsing, though it's not as good as the former. It's set in a world where humans and vampires coexist uneasily, and focuses on Abel Nightroad, a Vatican special agent who eats vampires. This is Gonzo, after all.
Father Nightroad loves his sammiches.
Father Nightroad gets serious.
Father Nightroad gets real serious. You can tell because he has glowing red eyes.
Trinity Blood keeps dropping hints along the way that there's more afoot than meets the eye, but in the end leaves matters unpalatably unresolved. Major plot points, motivations and background remain hanging, and the "ending" isn't.
And the envelope for "most pirate-like attire" goes to...
Still, points for style, original setting, memorable characters (though Abel's voice acting is a bit overdone), and a very nice opening theme. With a little more substance to fill things in, Trinity Blood could have been a real standout; too bad it's all bark and no bite. (Get it? Vampires? Eheh.)
